FIRST

MEASUREMENT

This is not something that you can "Google" or find the answer within the Triathlon environment. Injuries can rarely be compared, and each athlete must find their

own way.

Christina is not yet back at the elite level,

but she is now doing two daily passes,

besides swimming and cycling, she is well underway running again. As this top-athlete improves her condition, Christina has become part of the Egoo.health study, where her inflammation (CRP) and hemoglobin values

are used to manage and plan her training

path.

How does the inflammation level develop and how does it compare to other of the metrics, Christina is using to evaluate and plan her status. Will she get more precise information

to better plan ahead? (and avoid further injury!)

First thing is to find her "baseline". Over the coming weeks up until the Copenhagen Ironman event (15-18 August) Christina is going to continue to do weekly measurements of inflammation (CRP) and hemoglobin.

WHAT IS NEXT

Triathlete coach Martin Ishøy and 3 of his athletes are also joining the Egoo.health study. Martin is an experienced coach and uses various data metrics to plan his athletes training path; so Martin is very much looking forward to using this new tool that provides real clinical metrics.

HOW TO GET THROUGH AN INJURY

27 JUNE 19 RUNNING EGOO #1

CHRISTINA

SVEJSTRUP

Christina has always been conscious

of healthy living and training "Smart". When she heard about Egoo, this device got her attention. An easy-to-use device with clinical-grade precision that can on-the-spot test her Inflammation level, Hemoglobin level, Vitamin D level and many more.

Christina will start linking her diet, exercise- and training programs with these real clinical-grade metrics measured on the Egoo device and see how it affects her levels during rehabilitation and how she can use it actively to help getting fit again. She has recently started to swim and cycle and hopes soon to be able to take up the running.

With Egoo, she hopes to get a deeper understanding of her injury from a real clinical perspective to avoid further injury, and get back in action asap.

Keep up to date with Christina's training and hear how the weekly measurements bring her closer to the next milestone ...

ABOUT CHRISTINA

Within just three years Christina Svejstrup won titles as triple winner of the Copenhagen Ironman, Ironman World Record Holder within Age Group, Ironman 70.3 European Champion as well as Age Group World Champion. A GREAT starting point for a professional career as a triathlete.

Thus, an injury in her foot has led to a temporary training stop, but with reasonable rehabilitation she should be ready for competition shortly.

COACH MARTIN HAASTRUP ISHØI

Martin is a passionate and data driven coach who uses different data metrics to plan his athletes' training programs. Martin plans to combine his current data metrics with Egoo clinical-grade metrics which should provide him with new ways of analysing his athletes’ health status pre- during and post performance.

Christian Lorenzen: Former swimmer, now Ironman.

Brian Jensen: Former professional icehockey player, now Ironman.

Maja Haastrup Ishøi: Danish Champion in the Triathlon Sprint Distance, had a serious accident last year and has been through a long rehabilitation.

Christina Svejstrup: Former Ironman winner and professional, foot injury.

(See presentation RUNNING EGOO #1)

Interestingly, several of Martin’s team athletes participated in a half Ironman the day before this week’s measurements and everyone’s inflammation level was more

than doubled compared to the week before (where there had been no race) and as expected a decrease in the hemoglobin level. What does these numbers mean and how can they be used to plan for the next race? More numbers and analysis to come over the next weeks …

IMPROVE YOUR PERFORMANCE

There are many ways to prepare yourself to an Ironman. Some like gadgets, data and others do it more by intuition. One of the tricky things about preparing to an Ironman is to keep pushing the body to the next level over such a long period of time without overdoing it. Overdoing it can set you physically behind - not to mention the mental frustration. By using the Egoo device and measuring your biomarkers on a regularly basis in your training,

it can help you plan better, avoid injuries and improve your performance.

MISSION COMPLETED

The athletes, Christian Lorenzen, Brian Jensen, Maja Haastrup Ishøi and Martin Haastrup Ishøi have now performed their Ironman. All are satisfied with their positioning, feeling happy and a bit tired after a long period of dedication and

hard work.

Compared to the previous Egoo measurement just before the Ironman, where the athletes’ numbers on both inflammation and hemoglobin were quite low because of the restitution period, the opposite is now the case after the Ironman. The body reacts to the extreme strain and hard work and therefore the inflammation level is high - very high for some - and so is the hemoglobin. This is to be expected.

The athletes and especially Martin (coach) are very positive about their Egoo experience during the last 8 weeks, “It’s easy to use and it makes sense. I see a lot of potential in the Egoo device".

Below is the Egoo measurements of the athletes from the last 8 weeks.

BEFORE

RESTITUTION

COUNTDOWN TO IRONMAN

RUNNING EGOO BLOG

The athletes are now in the last week

of training before they scale down and restitute up until the Ironman. This week’s tests clearly show that the athletes have increased inflammation due to the last increased intensity of their training program. They can now benefit from

a week of restitution in order NOT TO HAVE INFLAMMATION in their body

when Ironman starts on Sunday 18th.

All along, we have seen that the two parameters – Hemoglobin and Inflammation – follow a clear path of high numbers when intense training - and lower numbers when restitution. What does that mean: It is probably not wise to increase training performance when you have high numbers – your body will fight further inflammation and consequently you won’t perform as well.

Therefore, use Egoo CRP/Hemoglobin

to plan your training program and avoid “overdoing it” when your body’s clinical reaction signals are not optimal. AND, you can hold your clinical biomarker levels up against all other metrics that you may use and see if there is a private pattern that can relate to your performance.

Next week blood testing with Egoo will take place on Thursday 15th of August at 3 pm at the Ironman event at BLOX, in the heart of Copenhagen where the 5 athletes will do their last measurements just before the Ironman event. Hopefully, the numbers will be low and ideal – ready for HIGH PERFORMANCE!

You’re very welcome to visit our stand 15-17th of August at the Ironman event.
